Winnow buys Lumitics to strengthen food waste tech in Asia-Pacific
Winnow has acquired Singapore-based Lumitics, a move that consolidates its lead in food waste reduction technology for hospitality across Asia-Pacific. The deal gives it immediate access to deployments in more than 20 countries across the region and the Middle East, and deepens its relationships with major chains such as Accor, Hyatt, Marriott and Four Seasons, according to the statement from Hospitality Net.
Lumitics brings a computer vision platform trained specifically for hotel kitchens, one that can identify what gets thrown away and why. For a food and beverage director, that translates into actionable data to adjust purchasing, recipes and buffet service. In my view, this acquisition is not just geographic. Winnow also gains local talent and know-how in a market where regulatory pressure on food waste is building fast.
What stands out is that Winnow chose to buy rather than build to accelerate its regional footprint. Hoteliers already working with Lumitics will see a smoother path into the Winnow ecosystem, and those who are not now have a solid argument to take to their corporate office to evaluate the combined offering. Wasted food will remain a cost and a reputational issue. This merger just puts sharper tools on the table.
