Spain's air traffic beats Europe: 17.3% above 2019
Spain's airports managed 238,579 flights in September, up 17.3% on the same month in 2019, while Europe as a whole grew just 3.3%, according to figures from the state air navigation manager Enaire reported by Hosteltur. That gap is 14 percentage points, and it's not a one-off. Against September 2025 the country grew 4.8%, again ahead of the European average of 2.5%.
International traffic did the heavy lifting. More inbound seats means more reservations hit your booking engine, more last-minute cancellations land on your PMS and more no-show risk sits in your channel manager. Three systems talking to each other badly show up fast when volume climbs like this.
For hotel revenue teams, Spain is now an outlier market, and that has a direct operational cost. I'd argue the interesting question is not how many planes land but how many of those passengers your hotel actually captures at a margin. That's a distribution and pricing job, not an airport one, and the operators who nail it this winter will be the ones reading the data weekly.
