Aura Hoteles, the Galicia-based hotel startup, is proving that accelerated growth doesn't require risky tech leaps. The chain has built its entire digital infrastructure on Cloudbeds and its open architecture, extending the PMSPMSThe property management system is a hotel's core software. It handles reservations, check-in and check-out, room assignment, billing and the status of every stay. It is the operational heart that most other tools plug... with custom apps for housekeeping and guest communication. With six properties already operating, the play is straightforward: instead of spending three years stitching together disparate systems, Aura mounted everything on a solid, scalable foundation.
This is exactly what works for a small operator with ambition. Cloudbeds and its Open API let Aura build its own layers without depending on each vendor update or foreign roadmaps. The result is an operation that responds fast to what Aura actually needs, not what the vendor is selling this quarter. For a chain in expansion mode, where each new property adds complexity, that's gold.
My read is that Aura's model works because they chose the right base. Not all PMS platforms offer the same flexibility, and there's the real opportunity for the industry: hotels starting out in growth mode should demand open architecture from day one. Aura already does. Others still don't.
