Summary: Skift's Data + AI Summit left a clear message: AI changes how travel companies work, yet the booking volume still does not follow.

## Article

The talk at [Skift's Data + AI Summit in Europe](https://skift.com/2026/10/11/travel-ais-prove-it-phase-visibility-and-the-booking-gap/) this week landed somewhere between enthusiasm and reality check. The consensus among the people on stage: AI really is changing how travel companies distribute inventory and run their internal operations. The other half of the sentence, the one nobody wants to say out loud, is that booking volume has not moved in step.

That is the prove-it phase, and I think hotels should be happy about it. A tool that reorders your back office but leaves the guest with the same reservation flow is a tool half-finished. The honest reading of a summit like this is that the sector is testing, not scaling, and testing is exactly the right place to be.

My take: the visibility problem is the one to solve. Revenue managers can see the model working in a dashboard. Guests cannot see anything. Bridge that and the booking numbers follow. Until then, treat every AI pitch with a simple question, what does it change in the booking itself?
