Summary: Terence Ronson warns that hotels without integrated guest data and AI recognition are quietly bleeding loyalty. I think he is right, and the fix is more cashable than it looks.

## Article

Terence Ronson has a blunt message for hoteliers: if your systems cannot remember a returning guest, you are not running a loyalty program, you are running a lottery. In his piece on [Hotel News Resource](https://www.hotelnewsresource.com/article143182.html), he argues that the gap between hotels that stitch guest data together and those that do not is turning into a commercial divide. The second group keeps re-introducing itself at every check-in while the first one greets you by name, knows your pillow preference and your drink.

The mechanism is boring and that is exactly the point. **PMS, CRM, POS, booking engine and messaging tools hold fragments of the same person**, and only the properties that pull those fragments into one profile can feed anything useful to an AI layer. Ronson calls the alternative AI amnesia: plenty of flashy tools, zero memory of who is walking through the door. In my reading, that is the difference between a gimmick and a working asset. A guest who has to repeat their allergy three times across four stays is a guest already shopping your competitor.

My take: stop treating recognition as a soft guest-experience project and treat it as revenue infrastructure. The hotels that win here will not be the ones with the fanciest chatbot, but the ones whose data plumbing is clean enough to let the AI be useful. That is a battle hoteliers can actually win, and the playbook is unglamorous: fewer tools, better integration, one identity per guest.
