Summary: Hotels treat Wi-Fi as a speed and login question. The real risk lives in the network nobody is watching.

## Article

Most hotels still pick their Wi-Fi the way they pick a lobby scent: how fast, how free, how easy to log in. Security enters the conversation only after something has already gone wrong, which is exactly backwards from how the risk works. [Revfine](https://www.revfine.com/cybersecurity-best-practices-for-hotels-and-hospitality-businesses/) puts it plainly: the network most properties are running is bigger than they think.

That "bigger than they think" is where the real work sits. Guest Wi-Fi, PMS terminals, door locks, POS systems, cameras, thermostats and the back-office printer all share one pipe more often than anyone would like to admit. Every connected device is a door, and the hotel does not get to choose which one a guest or a vendor has already propped open. The fix is boring but effective: **segment the network**, keep guest traffic away from operations, rotate vendor credentials, and treat every new IoT gadget as a security purchase, not a facilities one.

My take: the properties that get this right are not the ones with the biggest IT budget. They are the ones where the GM and the revenue manager treat the network as a commercial asset, because a two-day outage during high season costs more than the entire security stack. Start with an inventory of what is actually connected. You will be surprised, and you will sleep better.
