Summary: Natural-language hotel search is coming, but ARI-based distribution does not have the granularity to feed it. The interface battle restarts.

## Article

The fight for who owns the guest interface is back on, and this time the weapon is natural language. According to an [opinion piece published on Hospitality Net](https://www.hospitalitynet.org/opinion/4134343/the-battle-for-guest-interface-is-starting-again), conversational AI opens the door to a kind of hotel search that OTAs have dominated for two decades: you describe the trip, the assistant finds the room. It sounds simple. It is not.

The bottleneck sits underneath, in the ARI pipes that feed most distribution today, availability, rates and inventory pushed in blocks that are too coarse for an AI to answer something as human as "I want a quiet room with a bathtub, walkable to the old town, under 180 euros". That kind of query needs granular data: attributes, context, real-time conditions. The current infrastructure is not there yet.

My reading: this is good news for hoteliers who have been watching the OTA tax eat their margins. If the interface shifts from a search box with filters to a conversation, the player that owns the richest, cleanest data about its own rooms can win back ground. The window is open. The ones who move first on attribute-level content and payment-ready direct booking will not need to ask permission to be found.
