Summary: Platforms keep promising a seamless journey, but when a flight is cancelled or a booking fails, nobody takes charge. That gap is the real opportunity for hotel tech.

## Article

Every platform CEO spent this week selling the same promise: the connected trip. One itinerary, one payment, one app that follows you from the airport to the hotel lobby. According to [Skift](https://skift.com/2026/09/25/whos-in-charge-when-a-trip-goes-wrong/), that trip does not exist yet for most travelers. The gap between the pitch and reality shows up the second something breaks.

A cancelled flight, a reservation that never landed in the PMS, a charge that appears twice. The traveler opens the app, taps help, and lands in a maze. The airline points to the OTA, the OTA points to the hotel, the hotel says the booking never arrived. Nobody owns the problem because nobody owns the whole journey.

My take: this is the most valuable gap in travel tech right now. Whoever builds the layer that actually takes charge when a trip fails, not just when it works, wins the customer for good. Hotels have an edge here. They see the guest in person, they can fix things on the spot, and a good recovery story travels further than any ad. The connected trip will not arrive as one grand platform. It will arrive as a hundred small moments where someone finally picked up the phone.
